Why Banksiia Design Studio?

The name Banksiia Design Studio was born from my earliest memories along the coastline and national park of Hat Head, where I spent my first years exploring with my ever-patient mother. Those formative experiences—feeling the textured, sculptural landscape and absorbing the sensory richness of the natural world—left an indelible impression that shapes my design philosophy today.

The Banksias captivated me; I can still detect its distinctive scent from remarkable distances. These native plants embody everything I value in design: intricate textures, natural sustainability, and enduring beauty that evolves over time. Even their seed pods remain striking long after the flower spikes have fallen, each one uniquely formed. My approach to interiors mirrors this appreciation for natural imperfection, incorporating antiques and organic finishes that honor our living world. This connection isn't merely aesthetic—biophilic design elements have been scientifically proven to enhance our health and wellbeing.

The studio's name also pays homage to my creative parents, whose thoughtful use of recycled materials in renovating old houses and furniture instilled in me a deep respect for sustainability and transformation—values that remain at the heart of every space that I create.
